Dr. Nico Wanandy PhD is a graduate from The University of New South Wales, one of Australia’s best Schools of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science. He has dedicated himself since 2015 to applying ecological principles to support agriculture, and the pioneering a sustainable system known as Agroecology. His focus on restoring soil fertility in Indonesia, have been degraded by chemical fertilizers and other factors like insecticides and pesticides, highlights his commitment to ecological restoration.
Through his efforts, degraded soil and water are rejuvenated and planted with a diverse array of flora, enhancing the biodiversity, and sustainability in the production of secondary metabolites. Dr. Wanandy’s approach helpsrestore the ecological balance and also cultivates the plant life with economic value, including those with medicinal properties, and thus, enabling significant bioprospecting opportunities. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, his leadership in developing an Indonesian herbal-based immunomodulator demonstrated his commitment to nature-based medicines and sustainable solutions for combating the global health challenges.
